Little John is not going to be coming home today. The doctors don't feel that he has gained enough weight yet. Even though he currently weighs 9 lbs.
So Little John will be alternately feed on breast milk and bottle feed fortified formula. We are hopeful that they will be more comfortable sending him home tomorrow.

Little John is doing really well. Doctors are going to allow Marlo to actually try to breast feed Little John today hopefully. Marlo has been getting acquainted w/ waking up to Little John's cries at night. Right now John is only on his feeding tube and preventative oxygen just to make sure that his heart is working well.
Hopefully Little John will be home tomorrow afternoon.
Thanks again for all the best wishes and prayers. Also thank you for all the people who have made the trip to visit.
Check back later for updates on Little John's progress.

Little John is now getting 3ml/hr of breast milk. He is breathing really well and over all well. Little John is getting well adjusted to being held and snuggled a lot.
2:42pm-Update: Little John has been moved to the 3rd floor to a treatment room to adjust to being off all the machines. If he adjusts well then he will be in his own room by tonight. They upped his milk to 5ml/hr and he is really doing well. As soon as his bag of lipids runs out they will remove his lipids tube.
He may be released the end of this week if things keep progressing well.

Hey Everyone,
After the tests that were run it turned out that Little John did have small infection. He is on antibiotics to get rid of it.
Yesterday Little John underwent Angioplasty. Little John had a breathing tube inserted for the surgery as well. They were concerned that he had a blockage in his heart but all went well. They also did another trace test where they send the dyed liquid thru to see the path of blood flow through his heart. All went well.
Little John is very feisty. He is trying to remove his own breathing tube but is being stopped by the nurses and family. :) He will have his breathing tube removed later today.
His shunt surgery was originally scheduled for Tuesday 10/7/08 however, since Little John is doing so well [He's our little fighter :)], they have moved his surgery up to Monday 10/6/08. They have removed him from the heart transplant list for the time being. The surgery for the shunt is only temporary and we are hopeful that we will have Little John ready for a transplant in a few months.
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.

Update 9/30/08
Little John is not having surgery today. He developed a fever overnight and the doctors are taking a Spinal tab, blood and urine samples to check for culture to determine why he has a fever.
Little John is using hospital oxygen on occasion when his O2 Levels get low. He is breathing room air for the most part and only uses the O2 sparingly.
They had to put a cathador put in his bladder and it was a struggle to get it in. But it is in now.
Now we just have to wait. Thank you all for you thoughts and prayers at this time.

John~Update
Little John is doing well. He is on room air and no ventilator at this time. He will have surgery on Tuesday to put a shunt in. The surgeons will determine at that time if there is anything further that needs to be done. They are waiting for a heart transplant and doing the best that can for the time being.
John is also receiving blood transfusions. More information will be posted on how people can help with that later.
Thanks for the prayers and well wishes!
